This week's question is: What is a book you didn’t like that all your friends raved about or what book did you love that wasn’t popular?

A Song of Fire and Ice...I do like the Game of Thrones tv show, but I started reading the first book, and couldn't get past the 30% mark. I also bought the whole His Dark Materials series because I enjoyed The Golden Compass movie, and I couldn't get past the 30% mark in the first book of that one either. Witch & Wizard was another book that I didn't finish.

On the flip side, I know there are a lot of bloggers that do not like Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey, but I enjoyed both of those series.

  1. I haven't read Game of Thrones either. But I have a love-hate relationship with Twilight, and I have never been inclined to read Fifty Shades of Gray. We do really have diverse interests, and it is so interesting for me to read each week's FF! :)

  2. Hopping through. Yay Twilight! I really do want to read GOT, although it's very long.

  3. Fifty is definitely for some and not others. I love reading all the unique opinions as well. We have some wonderful shared interests and some certain differences, but it makes a beautiful group for sure. Thank you so much for stopping by!

  4. I hope you enjoy it when you get to it. Everyone I know loves the series...I felt like a weirdo for sure saying that I couldn't get through it :D Thank you so much for stopping by!

I didn't care for Twilight myself. Read all the books but it still bugged me at the end of the series and I was like, why did I just read all those?

    Here's my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT weekend!

  11. I didn't read the first twilight books, I only read Breaking Dawn and I liked it. I actually read it twice lol. This just says we're all different, just because someone hates a book doesn't mean everyone has to. I liked the movie Pride and Prejudice but I haven't been able to finish the book, I think that would still count as something everyone likes but I didn't as much as everyone else.

  12. Oh yeah, also Harry Potter, I mean I liked the books but the first time I tried reading the first book I couldn't read the first chapter so I just didn't. I want to try reading them now, I just need time and find the books.

  13. I liked Twilight at the time I was reading them as they came out. I half to say I was disappointed when I read BD. I thought 60 some pages of "talking it out" basically was boring and a horrible way to end a series!

  15. I see what you mean. THE GAME OF THRONES is definitely one of those harder books to read, but I'm enjoying it so far. You should come by and check out some of the comments being made for the read-along on my site. Maybe you'll join us in the near future for the read -along of one of the books in the series, if not all.

I heard that the Game of Thrones is a very heavy read but none the less I stillw ant to get into it! All my siblings have read it and they all loved it! So as a book lover I really need to get into it as well ;)

Thanks for sharing! I am now also following you :)

  20. Thanks for dropping by! I love the Games of Thrones show, too, and I own the books. I suspect I will like them when I can finally find the time to read them!

I liked Twilight, but not 50, but it was a whole lot of fun writing reviews for 50. :)

  22. Sorry you didn't like the book! I do love the show show as well!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Aah! Don't tell me that - I have GoT sitting on my TBR pile! ;) I haven't seen the show but a co-worder highly recommended the book. Of course, I think it's been on my shelf for about a year!

I loved Twilight and Fifty Shades too! Enjoy your weekend, Jaclyn!

  24. I wonder if the problem is that you've watched the show/movie first? You should keep with the Pullman series... the movie did it a real injustice in the end, the book has a really wonderful plot XD ... where as, Game of Thrones... is really very close to the book, so I can see how it might be boring to read if you've already watched the entire Season 1.

  25. I already followed you on Twitter but I've added myself to GFC here too! I enjoyed Twlight because I didn't go into thinking it was well written literature. ;-) So I agree. I liked it for what it was. Couldn't get into 50 Shades though.

  26. I like the Twilight books much more than the movies. Thank you so much for stopping by :D

  30. Right? I don't like to not finish, but sometimes it's just not an option. Thank you so much for stopping by :D

    ReplyDelete
  31. LOL Yes I do know that there are a lot of people who didn't really enjoy it. I read the books after seeing the movie and liked them better. Thank you so much for stopping by!

    ReplyDelete
  32. You're right. Pride and Prejudice and Harry Potter are two of my favorites. We are all different and 'hear' something different out of the books though so even when I read someone's review of a book and they didn't like it...if I really want to read it I do so I can form my own opinion :D Thank you so much for stopping by!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think part of the reason that didn't bother me was because I was excited to see the culmination of Bella Swan. She was always dependent on others to save her and wanted nothing more than to keep her loved ones safe and not to be a liability. I really like how that was shown and how much she had grown in order for it to be that way. Thank you so much for stopping by!

  34. I'll stop by and check out the read-along. Thank you so much for stopping by :D

  42. I know a ton of people do...it's hard to put my finger on why I didn't get into it. The show is good :D Thank you so much for stopping by!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sorry! LOL I think that if you start one without the other you may enjoy it better. Have a fantastic weekend :D

    ReplyDelete
  44. Could be? I'm not sure. I watched the Twilight movie first and loved the books more...and read Lord of the Rings first but actually enjoyed the movies better. I'll see if I can get back into that book now that it has been a while since first trying. Good observation on Game of Thrones, that may be the issue. Thank you so much for stopping by!

  45. I think it's better sometimes when we don't have our expectations up and just take it for what it is. Thank you so much for stopping by :D

  49. I hate to say this out loud but I didn't like the Wolves of Mercy Falls books at all! I think the hype gave me crazy high expectations too! I liked Twilight but not book one of Fifty Shades. My mom wants me to read the other books in the series before I judge. Lol

  50. I know Twilight was really a hit or miss with the readers. I hope you enjoy 50 - it's definitely a hit or miss as well :D Thank you so much for stopping by!

  51. I don't mind a good vampire read still...I just like a different take in the stories :D Thank you so much for stopping by!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wolves of Mercy Falls was just a 'meh' series for me so I don't mind you saying that aloud LOL. That's funny about your mom though. I think 50 is one you either like or don't. There is actually a good story line though. Thank you so much for stopping by!

I haven't read either of those books, and now I can honestly say I don't think I will. I didn't like quite a few books that everyone else liked. I was afraid people would throw things at me.
