Goodreads Summary

We have all heard of the fabled perfect being, the Greek God.

Well, how about a geek god? Named Bernie, yet.

Fresh with his diploma from God School, determined but unsure, bright but without confidence, Bernie faces the challenge of building his own universe. If only it were that easy...

An old school rival will do whatever it takes to ensure Bernie's failure, even if it means destroying his world.

It’s god vs. god, guile vs. goodness, where only one of them plays by the rules. Bernie must find a way to outwit his evil foe. If he fails, it will cost him everything.

A fascinating tale of good vs. evil and a young hero on a journey of self-discovery in an original, humorous, fantastic wrapper.

The Good

Everything about The Universe Builders was brilliant. It has a very strong story-line and absolutely beautiful characters. The uniqueness of the concept is so refreshing that it delighted me to no extent. The narration is simple yet effective and pulls you in the book right from the start and keeps you 'right there' all along.

Steve LeBel has done an amazing job in building the characters and he has successfully created a character that every reader can relate to (much like our beloved hobbits.) Bernie is the most adorable and relatable character you'll come across. He is sincere, responsible, extremely loyal, honest, innocent and most of all, sensitive. On the other hand, Bernie's cloud is mischievous, impatient and immature, displaying striking contrast to Bernie's personality, complimenting it perfectly. I'm very sure that each and every reader will be able to relate themselves with Bernie, in some or the other way.

Other commendable elements or I should say life-forms in the book are Sissy and Lookies. They add the "awwww" factor to this book and I'm looking forward to reading more about them in the next installment of the book.

The Bad

There is nothing "bad" in/about the book, NO!

The Romance

Suzie's love for Bernie is so genuine that it will make you smile to yourself. I loved the way Suzie understood Bernie and how she always supported him. On the other hand, Bernie, who also likes Suzie a lot, is very shy and blushes whenever she's around (which makes him even more adorable!) Bernie's cloud, aware of his feelings for her, always tries to get them close to each other, leaving Bernie embarrassed most of the time. Bernie and Suzie are perfect for each other in each and every way and I really hope that they get together as lovers in the next installment. *Fingers-crossed*.

Conclusion

I enjoyed the hell out of it and hope you will too! It's one book you really can't miss. I can't stop thinking about the book even after finishing it, and that's what makes it a perfect read for me with a 6-star rating.

  8. Heena, I'm totally sold on this. I cracked up reading the blurb, "Fresh with his diploma from God School..." Come on! That is so good. Simple narration, especially when the MC is someone like Bernie is usually a sure thing. I end up wishing I knew the character in real life. Great review, Heena. I have to read this one.

  10. Thanks a lot Robyn :)
T.U.B. will make you sink in the author's imagination just like Hobbit and LOTR, the only difference being the cuteness and the simplicity. Do share your after thoughts, I'd love to discuss about the book with you :)
