I'll be posting having a few Potter related posts throughout the month in addition to my usual Harry Potter Moment of the Week posts.

Favorite Lupin Moment:

This one is easy for me as I just mentioned it on Micheline's Birthday Buddy Spotlight for Lupin.

My absolute favorite Lupin moment is when he taught Harry how to perform the Patronus charm to protect himself against dementors. Those dark creatures with their soul-stealing mouths, and chronic depression causing auras incredibly freak me out. I would definitely want to be able to defend myself against them, especially with such a traumatic past as Harry. Since they bring your worst moments to the surface, he was affected by them particularly hard as someone who had been through really trying times.

What is especially telling to me in this moment is the fact that Lupin takes on the mentor role here with Harry and teaches him something that he knows students his age can't do. He did warn Harry not to feel bad if he didn't learn it, but he also went along with it and eventually taught him well enough to become the only wizard his age able to produce a Patronus.

What is your favorite Lupin moment?

  1. Gah! I have SO MUCH love for this moment Jaclyn^^ It made me emotional just reading how you described The Dementors, poor Harry's vulnerability to them and how Lupin stepped up and taught him a spell more kids Harry's age could never have mastered! Such a powerful moment^^♥

  2. Yep, the Dementors are bad, bad news. And that is one beautiful moment <3

  3. I love this scene so much!! I loved everything about this because not only does Lupin allow Harry to grow as a wizard (because no other teacher would have allowed Harry to practice this spell because they'd think he couldn't do it) it is also a very handy spell to know. Without Lupin teaching this to Harry, Dumbledore's army wouldn't have ever learned it and many of them probably would have died.m

This is such a great moment. I absolutely love the role Lupin plays in Harry's life; first as a mentor and then as a father figure. It's so great, this moment sort of marks the beginning of all of this. Lupin's encouragement and success in teaching him spells far beyond his age lead Harry to be able to teach others in return. Lupin is amazing!

  7. When Lupin first appeared on the train in their car, I was a little concerned with where his character was going. Especially after Quirrell and Lockhart as DADA teachers. It didn't take long for me to love him though.

  8. True story! If Harry would never have learned it, neither would Dumbledore's Army and they were instrumental in the Battle at Hogwarts.

  9. I also think it's great that you can tell the love that he has for Harry before he even really knows him. A love that passes from his friendships with James and Lily down to automatically loving Harry as their child. It's apparent that he cares about it and will do anything to help him succeed.

  10. Thank you! Yeah, that scene is basically the same in the book and the movie. I'm so glad they left that alone for the movie because it's fantastic.

  13. This moment was SO crucial not only in PoA but for the rest of the series, and I love how Harry passed on what he learned here to the DA. Lupin was such an amazing teacher; it always makes me so sad when he leaves Hogwarts, both in the PoA book and the movie!
