Sidekick Showcase [83] - Red

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday, is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on my page. Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in the week's topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• The day of your post, put your link in below and grab the code for your post so you can see the others that post their's throughout the week as well

Topic ideas for July:
HOT, Patriot, and Red-heads.

My choice is Scarlet Benoit
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Scarlet Benoit picture created by Jaclyn Canada

Scarlet could be considered a main character because there is one book in the series devoted to her, but she's also a side character in the future books. She's modeled after Red Riding Hood. Her grandmother is the most important person to her, and when she's kidnapped she does everything in her power to find her. She's got a big heart, is very loyal, but also has that fiery side often associated with being a red-head. She lives in France on a farm and meets her Wolf on her journey to track down her grandmother.

Quotes:

She would make him listen. She would make him understand that her grandma hadn't left of her own free will, and that she most certainly had not killed herself.

Scarlet couldn't help thinking as he passed that despite all signs of brutality, he looked no more menacing now than a scolded dog.

"Wolf," she whispered to herself as the water began to percolate. She let the word linger, feeling it on her lips. To some, a wild beast, a predator, a nuisance. To others, a shy animal who was too often misunderstood by humanity.

"I'm sorry I shot you," she said, "but you were going to kill him."
"I still might," Wolf said, watching her hands.
She shook her head taping off the bandage. "He's not your real brother, is he? That's just a gang thing, isn't it?"
Wolf grunted.

Something so big. Something so important. And her grandma had kept it from her. "We don't keep secrets," she whispered to herself, head sinking as tears started to well in her eyes again. "We don't keep secrets from each other."

  2. Ooh, I love the drawing, Jaclyn! I haven't read this series YET but I intend to. I just need more time in my day! *ha* Obviously, I never got my Sidekick post done but I just wasn't feeling it. I usually go sit in my library and flip through books for inspiration and since I was in Texas, I couldn't do that. Oh well, I'm home now so I'll get my post done for this Saturday. ;) I hope you had a great holiday weekend!!

  3. I know a few of you that couldn't get into it. I really love the story, and for me, it's gotten better with each book. You can't make yourself like something when you don't though so it just may not be for you. I hope if you do give it another chance, that you enjoy it more.

  4. Thank you :D I think you would really love this series though it is hit or miss between my blogger buds. Don't worry about the post, no biggie. We all have things going on sometime and blogging is meant to be fun. I love that you sit in a library for the posts though! I think it's been 3 years or so since I've been to my local library. That's where the homeless people hang out. I hope you enjoyed your trip :D

  6. Cool pick! :)
It's been a while since I've read the first two books, but I remember thinking they were pretty good; nothing incredible though, but I think that's mainly due to the fact that I'm not a huge sci-fi fan (just some books here and there) :).
    Thanks for sharing!:)

  7. I know this series is really hit-or-miss with readers. I personally do adore it, but I can see why others just don't get into it. I hope you are having a great week!

I love comments and read every one of them! Since they are an award in themselves, this is an award-free blog. Thank you though for the consideration!
