Sidekick Showcase [60] - What a Brat

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday, is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on my page. Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in the week's topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• The day of your post, put your link in below and grab the code for your post so you can see the others that post their's throughout the week as well

For the month of February, we're gonna go down the romance path and select characters that are romantic or just plain hot. Let's celebrate our book boyfriends and the protagonist's love interests.

So sorry I've been missing for the last few days! I got the flu and it knocked me on my tail.

My choice is Mia Rinaldi
The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead

Mia Rinaldi picture created by Jaclyn as portrayed by Sami Gayle

I don't even know where to start with Mia. She was one of the brattiest characters that I've come across before. Some of the things that she did to get back at Lissa and Rose were truly despicable. She clawed her way to the top of the popularity ladder and she acted proactively to make sure no one was going to knock her down. She's actually pretty tenacious. She does have a turn-around though which was a lot of fun to watch especially since we get to see that tenacity pointed to more positive things. I love Mia :D This series has so many characters that I love.

Mia: "It looks to me like it came from a garage sale. I thought a precious Dragomir would have standards."
Rose: "She does have standards, which is why you're done talking to her."

Rose: "Are you lost, little girl? The elementary school's over on west campus.”
Mia: "Don't you ever touch me again. You screw with me, and I'll screw you right back.”
- Oh man, what an opening that was. -
Rose: "And if you mess with either of us again, I'll break you in half. If you don't believe me, go ask Dawn Yarrow about what I did to her arm in ninth grade. You were probably at nap time when it happened.”

Mia: "And Rose wants something now."
Rose: "Hey, we're just happy to see you."
Mia: "I believe you. But I also believe you've got an ulterior motive."
Lissa: "What makes you say that? Can you read Rose that well or do you just always assume she's got an ulterior motive?"
Mia: "Both."

Mia: "I sure do wish I knew what you guys were doing."
Rose: "No. I'm not sure that you do."

“Rose only hangs out with guys and psychopaths," said Mia.

"Well," he said cheerfully, "since I'm both a psychopath and a guy, that would explain why we're such good friends.”

  1. She looks so angsty in the picture. I love when mean characters take a turn for the good in a series.
    Hope you are feeling better.

  2. I need to read this series before the movie comes out!! Like PRONTO!

  3. I'm really excited to see how the movie turns out! It looks a lot different from the other book to movies. Thanks so much for stopping by :D

  4. She really does. Me too for sure. It shows a lot of talent on the author's part to take a character you previously despised and have them become your favorite. Thank you!! I'm doing much better and finally feeling like a human again.

  5. LOL Jaclyn, Mia is a great choice, and I love the quotes you used to prove your point! So snarky and full of spunk!

I haven't finished my SS post yet, we were at a wedding yesterday, and stayed out way too late, danced way too much and had tons of fun!

Have a fantastic Sunday, Jaclyn *hugs*

  6. Perfect choice! I hated Mia SO much in the first VA book, lol! But she did grow a lot, and I really liked her in the later books. I hope you're feeling a lot better! :D

  7. I know...she really is a spunky spitball. Oh, how awesome about the wedding. I always have so much fun at them :D I hope you're having a great Sunday as well!! *hugs*

  8. I just couldn't stand her in the first one, but she found a place in my heart. I heard she is planning on doing another spin-off in the series, and I'm kinda hoping it's about her. Thank you so much!! I am feeling a lot better.

  9. Oh my! Why didn't I think of Mia?!? Especially since I mined VA. LOL Mia is an excellent choice, Jaclyn. She is definitely a brat. Ugh! I couldn't stand her character when she was first introduced. Of course, she was served her comeuppance. :) And she eventually grew on me. Do any of Richelle's characters NOT grow??

Thanks for adding my link for me! :) I was away this weekend...I'll be posting pics of what I did while I was away on Thursday. I hope you're having a great week!
