This week's Question:

What book (or TV show or movie) have you not read that seemingly everyone else has?

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

Goodreads Summary:

'Liberty, equality, fraternity, or death; -- the last, much the easiest to bestow, O Guillotine!'

After eighteen years as a political prisoner in the Bastille, the ageing Doctor Manette is finally released and reunited with his daughter in England. There the lives of two very different men, Charles Darnay, an exiled French aristocrat, and Sydney Carton, a disreputable but brilliant English lawyer, become enmeshed through their love for Lucie Manette. From the tranquil roads of London, they are drawn against their will to the vengeful, bloodstained streets of Paris at the height of the Reign of Terror, and they soon fall under the lethal shadow of La Guillotine.

This edition uses the text as it appeared in its serial publication in 1859 to convey the full scope of Dickens's vision, and includes the original illustrations by H. K. Browne ('Phiz'). Richard Maxwell's introduction discusses the intricate interweaving of epic drama with personal tragedy.

As far as a movie goes, I've never seen Avatar though I know I'm in the minority there :D

  2. I think I had to read A Tale of Two Cities in school, but all I have are random images flashing in my head, but I sure did see Avatar. Happy Friday, Jaclyn. I look forward to a month of spooky Sidekick Showcase.

  3. I never read that one either. But you know what my answer would be. Harry Potter. I've only watched the movies, not read the books. I have book one but haven't gotten to it yet. I always feel so inadequate when you do your weekly Harry Potter thing cause I can only reference the movies which I know aren't the same.

  4. I have read parts of A Tale of Two Cities, but not the whole thing. And I have actually watched Avatar. I hope you'll have a fantastic Friday!

  5. Jessica@a GREAT readOctober 4, 2013 at 5:42 AM

There are a lot of classics I haven't read. I guess that makes me a horrible English major, but a lot of them just never appealed to me.

    Here's my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT weekend!

  6. Ah, Dickens...I have read this but I'm gonna say you're not missing anything. LOL I like detail but Dickens took it to the extreme. And his stories are depressing, too. ;)

I'm in the minority with you on Avatar...Happy Friday, Jaclyn!

  7. We had to read A Tale of Two Cities in high school. Not my favorite Dickens book.

But I'm with you on Avatar. I haven't seen it yet either.

  10. I'm so glad you've gotten to experience some part of HP though. Zane watched all the movies and loved them, but he is now reading through the books and thinks they are so much better. I hope you do read them someday :D

  14. LOL That's good to know!! I'm not a big classics lover. Really only enjoyed Pride and Prejudice out of all the classics. I REALLY don't like depressing. Happy Friday! Thank you so much for stopping by :D

  15. I'm happy to know it's not really that big of a deal even though so many people have read it. I know I feel stupid when they ask about it on trivia shows and I think I should be able to answer a question about a book. Thank you so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend :D

  16. Avatar is sort of Abyss meets GI Joe. Fantasy, military, drama, huge blue aliens. I really liked it, but couldn't sit through it again.

  17. I'm not a classics person really, and that is definitely a book I don't know if I will ever read. I know I'm horrible. I just find most to be so long and boring!

    Thanks for stopping by!
