Best Snape Moment
I know there are a lot of mixed feelings on Professor Snape. The reason that I love him is because he was such an enigma for most of the story, and when I found out the full truth, I couldn't help it. Harry got the impression from the first moment he laid eyes on him that Snape was not to be trusted. I will admit I went back and forth on him so many times through the series that I had whiplash. The way he treated Harry was disgusting, but I feel for him on a deep level when we learn more about his past.
I'm sure a lot of people will go with the 'always' moment. It's heart-wrenching for sure and an excellent look at who he truly is. For me though, it was when he was a child and befriended a young girl who was different from her family and learning how to be a witch.
Which Snape moment is your favorite?
Of all the characters I've met in books Snape may be the one I understand the best. My favorite scene of his would be
ReplyDeleteProfessor Severus Snape: So when the time comes... the boy must die?
Professor Albus Dumbledore: Yes. Yes... he must die.
[Shot of Snape collapsing at the sight of Lily's dead body]
Professor Severus Snape: You've kept him alive so that he can die at the proper moment. You've been raising him like a pig for slaughter!
Professor Albus Dumbledore: Don't tell me now that you've grown to care for the boy.
[Snape casts a Patronus in the shape of a doe, just like Lily's- the same one that helped Harry find the Sword of Gryffindor in Part 1]
Professor Albus Dumbledore: Lily... after all this time?
[Shot of Snape holding Lily's body in his arms while crying]
Professor Severus Snape: Always.
I always loved Snape. I knew from the beginning there was something good about him and not all was what it seemed.
ReplyDeleteParts of me love Snape for all he sacrificed, his bravery and how he dedicated his life to protecting Harry...but parts of me simply cannot forgive how awful he was to Harry or how he betrayed the Potter to Voldemort way back when. I'm always especially irked by him NEVER growing to care for Harry, despite his love for Lily. That being said, the moment you picked here ALWAYS warms my heart. And there's no denying he was one of THE most compelling characters in the series. I' didn't do a post for this topic but I think I'll have to revisit it once we get a free week :D Great pick Jaclyn and I hope everyone here had a happy Christmas ^^ xx
ReplyDeleteIt's a great moment
ReplyDeleteHe definitely stood-out as a character. I always thought in the back of my mind that he would end up being good, then I'd have small moments of doubt where I'd be like, "what if I'm wrong?" LOL
ReplyDeleteSnape is a character that brings out strong feelings in us as readers that's for sure. The selling the Potters out to Voldy thing, I see as being redeemed through all the sacrifices he made after that. Yes, he should never have done it in the first place, but it was clear that the decision broke him. The Harry thing...I never really understood why he hated him so badly. I get that he reminds Snape of his dad, but that's just a whole lot of hatred to stem over to a child. I never liked that about his character. Thanks so much for stopping by :D My Christmas was amazing!!
