Sidekick Showcase [90] - Strong Woman

Sidekick Showcase is a monthly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on the first Saturday of the month, then whichever day during the month that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on my page. Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in the week's topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• The day of your post, click the 'Sidekicks' link in my header and enter the link for your post. Here, you can also see anyone else that posted during the month to visit their Sidekick Showcase's as well.

Topic ideas for October: This is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month so in that frame of mind, I would love to celebrate strong women

My choice is Jill Mastrano
The Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead

Why Jill? I'm choosing her because she's a young teen girl that's so emotionally strong. Her whole world is turned on its head. She goes from this fan-girl, fast talking, let's all have fun to all of a sudden having to face consequences of an event that she literally had no choice in...being born. Stripped away from her family, she's living in almost isolation with very few others all for simply existing. Does this tear her down? No. Does dying and being brought to life tear her down? No. She deals with the consequences of that as well...another event she had no choice in. Now she's got a spirit bond that she can do nothing about. This bond cannot be easy to handle, having to 'feel' someone's deepest and darkest depressions along with your own young teen emotions has to be debilitating. I absolutely adore her attitude and easy-going, non-whiny way of handling all this.

“Any life worth living is going to have risks”

“She’s not just any Moroi. She’s royal. A princess. And you’ve seen how she is! Smart and strong and beautiful. She’s destined for great things, and one of them isn’t being involved with a controversial guardian like me. Her bloodline’s regal.Hell, I don’t even know who my dad is. Dating her is not even possible. My job is to protect her. To keep her safe. That’s where all my attention needs to be.”

“Sydney, don't leave Adrian because of me."
"It's more complicated than that," I said automatically.
"It's really not," she said. "From everything I've seen and heard, you're just afraid. You've always controlled every detail of your life. When you couldn't-like with the Alchemists-you found a way to seize back that control."
"There is nothing wrong with wanting control," I snapped.
"Except that we can't always have it, and sometimes that is a good thing. A great thing, even," she added. "And that's how it is with Adrian. No matter how hard you try, you aren't going to be able to control your feelings for him. You can't help loving him, and so you're running away. I'm just an excuse.”

  1. Jill is so sweet, but she can be tough when she needs to be. I totally ship her and Eddie; those two need to get together!

  2. Oh yes, I think she is understimated or overlooked too much.

  3. Bravo! Yes, Jill is indeed a strong young woman. She's an example of not knowing how strong she is until she has to be. Love her! And this series, of course. ;)

I love this month's theme, Jaclyn. So many to choose from. I just realized I never linked up my post for last month. But I did get one posted...even if it was the last weekend of the month. I hope you're having a great weekend. You didn't get any damage from those storms, did you?

  4. She's awesome. Mead is really good at writing memorable characters.

  5. Exactly! Her and Eddie definitely need to get together in the next one...

  6. She's underestimated a lot, but Eddie knows her inside and out. Thank you! I'll go check out your post from last month :D Storms blew through and were very strong, but no damage for us!!

  7. I love this feature idea! Secondary characters are kind of my favorite thing in most books so it's awesome that you're bringing more attention to them ;-) I haven't read this series, but yey strong women!

  8. Hey Jaclyn, I came by to link my Sidekick post, but the linky is closed. :(

  9. I fixed it!! Thank you for letting me know :D

I love comments and read every one of them! Since they are an award in themselves, this is an award-free blog. Thank you though for the consideration!
