Sidekick Showcase [65] - Drama Queen

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday, is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on my page. Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in the week's topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• The day of your post, put your link in below and grab the code for your post so you can see the others that post their's throughout the week as well

Sidekick Showcase March - Oscars and St. Patty's Day Topics: best dressed, biggest drama queen, red head, lucky, Irish, Saintly, ect.

My choice is Effie Trinket
Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins

Effie Trinket picture created by Jaclyn Canada as portrayed by Elizabeth Banks

Let's talk about Effie for a bit. She is a joke in the beginning of the story. With her crazy dress sense, and odd way of speaking, she is often poked fun at by the heroine and co. I chose her for Drama Queen simply because everything that she does is that inch more over the top. Her outfits, her accent, her pristine manners, and her positive attitude. That's not to say that I don't appreciate her as a character though, because I do very much. As a matter of fact, I feel that she's often under appreciated. She brings a light-hearted feeling to an often down-trodden cast. Who doesn't remember Effie seeing the joy in a sister volunteering for the first time in history in District 12? While everyone else was looking at her in disdain for clapping, I was admiring her for noticing the same thing that I was. How had this not happened before??

Quotes:

“May the odds be ever in your favor."

“She reaches in, digs her hand deep into the ball, and pulls out a slip of paper. The crowd draws in a collective breath, and then you can hear a pin drop, and I'm feeling nauseous and so desperately hoping that it's not me, that it's not me, that it's not me.

Effie Trinket crosses back to the podium, smoothes the slip of paper, and reads out the name in a clear voice. And it's not me.

It's Primrose Everdeen.”

It’s time for the drawing. Effie Trinket says as she always does, “Ladies first!”

“Unfortunately, I can't seal the sponsor deals for you. Only Haymitch can do that," says Effie grimly. "But don't worry, I'll get him to the table at gunpoint if necessary."

Although lacking in many departments, Effie Trinket has a certain determination I have to admire.

  1. What a great pick! I loved Effie. Her Haymitch scenes were some of my favorites. You're so right about her being under appreciated. When things got really rough, I remember thinking I could use a dang Effie scene. I LOVE the drawing! Those eyelashes and that mouth!!! I hope you get some time to relax this weekend!

  2. LOL! Effie is the perfect example of a drama queen, Jaclyn! May the odds be ever in your favor indeed :) I am still trying to figure out whom to choose this week. I hope I'll come up with something fairly quickly.

  9. Hey Sofia :D what we are doing is for the month of March the bloggers that participate can choose an 'Oscar' theme or a 'St Patrick's Day' theme. I listed a few to help out. We'll be doing these for the whole month of March and we choose whichever fits into those two categories to us. These are the topics I listed to help to choose from: best dressed, biggest drama queen, red head, lucky, Irish, Saintly, etc. Brandee went with 'Snubbed' this week so you can see how she chose her own to go in the themes.

  11. I loved Effie in the books, Jaclyn. My jury is still out on her movie persona though. :) She's a great choice for drama queen...you're absolutely right. She does ALWAYS go that one step farther on everything. I love your drawing of her too. Berk loves it - she loves pink. ;) And you picked great quotes as well.

I hope you had a great weekend and that your week is going well so far. The girls' competitions went well. Berk's winter guard placed 1st! And Jax had his musical debut as well - the singing butcher in Cinderella. He was awesome! :) What competition did Zane compete in??

  14. Oh I just love her interactions with Haymitch. She really can lighten the mood up even if it's because you're shaking your head at her. Thank you :D I had a wonderful weekend, though it was not very relaxing LOL
