Christmas Songs and Books

So now every time I listen to this song, it really has to be the Zooey Deschanel version just because I adore her and it makes me think of Elf. Her singing in the shower and him joining in the song had to be one of my absolute favorite parts of the movie.

Has anyone read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson?

I'm curious what your thoughts are on it if you have. I haven't read it, but Zane's reading it at school.

He is also working on a very neat project where he was given a country and was asked to research how that specific country celebrates Christmas. He was given Spain. I just love getting to know more about different cultures, religions, and the holidays that everyone celebrates. I'd love to hear about what traditions you have for this time of year.

  1. I love that scene in Elf too! I should watch it again because it's been a while. Since I was a little girl we listened to John Denver and the Muppets while we decorated the tree. Now I listen to it in the car whenever the boys are with me. Will loves to sing to all the slow songs. John likes the fast songs and really gets into it. I just love it! My dad used to have us for Christmas Eve and he'd take us to his house with his fake white tree that smelled like cheese then he'd go shopping for three house and give us presents in store bags. But he loves Christmas music and listens to it all year round. He'd get so chipper, it was a sight. Do you have any favorite movies? I love The Santa Clause and Miracle on 34th St. and It's a Wonderful Life. Have you listened to the Glee Christmas albums? They are great!! I'll stop now. I love this post!

  2. LOL, I love it. I have not read that book but now you have me interested.
Okay, you are going to think I am weird but that song, I, um, I call it the Christmas Rape Song. I know, so inappropriate, but have you ever listened to the lyrics? It's pretty rapey.

  6. I love Zooey's voice - I get to listen the the She & Him Christmas CD at work. :)

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is a great read - for kids and parents. I haven't read it in a few years but I like it.

I'd love to hear some of the things Zane learns. I love learning things about different cultures too. We have a family tradition of having pizza on Christmas Eve. Does that count?!? LOL What about y'all?

  8. I just saw Alisa's comment saying that she had a Christmas CD. I never knew she had a whole Christmas one. I listen to She & Him, but super jealous that you're hearing the Christmas songs. I'll be looking them up :D Thank you for letting me know about The Best Christmas Pageant Ever especially that it's a great read for parents too. I want to read it and see what it's all about.

So far Zane learned that Spain celebrates Christmas with 12 days. One of the days is sort of like our April Fool's Day, but with Saints. They put shoes with straw in their window and in the morning there are presents in them. And they say Feliz Navidad. There's a lot more, but that's a quick summary. It's really neat learning about all that history and culture.

I love that ya'll have pizza on Christmas Eve. We cook enchiladas :D

  9. I'm hoping it comes on sometime soon because I haven't seen it this season yet. I love that ya'll have a John Denver and the Muppets music tradition. I randomly sing Christmas songs all year long as well. It's definitely my favorite time of year. My favorite Christmas movie hands-down is The Santa Clause. I haven't heard the Glee Christmas albums. I'll have to check those out!! I'll be posting more favorite things for Christmas. I have to put my absolute favorite song up :D

I love comments and read every one of them! Since they are an award in themselves, this is an award-free blog. Thank you though for the consideration!
