Harry Potter Moment of the Week [52]

This is a meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts. The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/ films/ J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! She is picking a topic within HP for us to focus on each week and then if anyone wants to take part feel free! All she asks is to link back to her blog :). There is now a full list of the topics to come here.

  Worst Death

For me, Sirius was a horrible loss. We loved him so much. Then Dumbledore punched me in the stomach. The thing with these two is, that I was expecting them. I felt like Harry wasn't going to catch a break having a 'father figure' and that he was going to have to be left alone without an influencing person at the end. My thing was always that if Dumbledore was around, why would Harry ever really have to fight Voldemort? I was also mad about losing Fred.

But the worst one for me was Dobby.

When Sirius died, Harry was beyond ANGRY. So, so mad. When Dumbldore died, Harry was confused and then ANGRY. The circumstances around Dobby and his death, had Harry in tears and almost broken for a moment. The passages surrounding him dying and Harry burying him, had me ugly snot crying.

What was the worst death for you?

  2. Dobby's death was painful for me as well. Lupin and Tonks deaths bother me some as well. But Fred dying made me a bit upset. It's a good thing it happened in the last book or I might have set them down for a while out of spite.

  3. See, that's exactly how I felt about Dumbledore's death. As much as I adored him and didn't want him to die, from the first book I knew he'd die before the series was out. So it was sad but at the same time, I knew it had to happen. I didn't expect Sirius though...or Dobby for that matter. And Dobby was such an innocent. So pure, the first free Elf. Free because of Harry, and for him to die saving Harry. It just makes me want to cry, Harry must have blamed himself so much for that :(

  4. Aww, Dobby! This one was bad for me too. I don't cry easily when reading, but this one I cried over. I had to put the book down for a bit to give myself time to process it. It is the moment that really underscores just how horrible Bellatrix and the Death Eaters were...

    Here's my HP MOTW...

Dobby's death is just tragic. I mean Harry digs the grave by hand which no one would ever do for a house elf. Just thinking about it is making me tear up.

  6. I could barely hold back the tears when Dobby died in the film. :( He sacrificed as much as any witch or wizard to help Harry and was a true friend until the very end.

  9. Hedwig!!! that was so unexpected and it killed me!! I was just talking about this the other day with my mom lol...Hedwig was just the sweetest owl, and despite Harry's crazy life she was always there for him, all soft and snowy and reliable. (I have a Hedwig stuffed animal on my desk! although I think my kitten hid it lol)

  10. It was a really hard one. He just didn't catch a break on those father figures at all.

  11. Fred hit me pretty hard as well, but like you said that was the last one. I'm not sure I would've made it through more books with a dead Fred. Lupin and Tonks were awful too because I loved them a lot and they left an orphaned son.

  12. Harry absolutely had to be filled with guilt. So many other people had already been sacrificed for him, and this one must've been a hard blow because like you said he was such an innocent.

  13. Definitely! You know I always thought about how hard it would be for George to be without Fred, but I never even considered that James and Oliver had to live through that scene as well. It must've been so emotionally hard for them.

  14. I'm not a big crier while reading either, but this one got me.

  15. That's really why it was so emotional for me because Harry is horribly upset by it. Digging the grave by hand, and the others coming out to help. The stone with 'Here lies a free elf'...it was all very sad.

  16. I've seen it a ton of times, and still have to hold them back even knowing it's coming. It's so sad, but I'm glad Harry acknowledged him so well.

  17. Snape's death was terrible! Such an awful way to go, but on top of that immediately after you learn that he was such a brave person sacrificing his life for their cause. It was bad.

  18. I agree, I never understood why Hedwig died. I understood that he couldn't carry her around with him getting horcruxes, but she could've stayed somewhere safe during that time. It was definitely unexpected!
