Sidekick Saturday [9]

Sidekick Saturday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in this week's type
• Share a picture and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• Put your link in the Linky thing and comment

This week's sidekick type is - Classic:

My choice is Jane Bennett from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin

Jane is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bennett and is soft spoken and kind hearted. Elizabeth describes her as seeing the best in people...that people can do no wrong in her eyes. Her mother describes her as the most beautiful in the county. She is meant to marry Mr. Bingley. She obviously doesn't show interest in others very well and this works against her. I enjoy Jane's character greatly as you can tell that Elizabeth cares deeply for her and vice versa.

Quotes (Movies and Books)

"It is very often nothing but our own vanity that deceives us. Women fancy admiration means more than it does."

"He is just what a young man ought to be."

"Oh, Lizzy, if I could but see you happy. If there were such another man for you."

"One of these days, Lizzy, someone will catch your eye and then you'll have to watch your tongue."

"You know perfectly well that I do not believe that marriage should be driven by thoughts of money!"

  4. I went about it backwards actually. I saw the newest version of the movie because I'm a fan of Kiera Knightley. Once I saw that, I knew that I needed to read the book and it was easy to follow since I had already seen the movie, but the language may have been an issue if I hadn't.

  5. Me too :) In modern works, 'the most beautiful' character is often conceited or broken in some way and the hard to connect with person. I love that Jane is the most beautiful inside and out.

  6. Jane is such a sweet character, and such a loving sister. I love how she always tries to find the good in everyone. I've only caught a snippet here and there of this P & P adaptation; one day I'll have to watch it all the way through, though I am rather attached to the Colin Firth version. :)

I love comments and read every one of them! Since they are an award in themselves, this is an award-free blog. Thank you though for the consideration!
