Sidekick Saturday [8]

Sidekick Saturday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in this week's type
• Share a picture and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• Put your link in the Linky thing and comment

This week's sidekick type is - Violent:

My choice is Ares from Percy Jackson

Ares first appears to Percy riding on a motorcycle to a diner and frightens most of the patrons. He then 'convinced' Percy to help retrieve something of his from the Tunnel of Love by bullying them and it ended up being quite the adventure for Percy, Annabeth and Grover.

Ares is someone that you definitely don't want to get on the bad side of. Once you do, you are likely to lose or be most unlucky in any battles that you have afterwards. He is dating Aphrodite and will generally pick a fight with someone he is in a room with. He also appears to be quite a hard father to make proud and often bullies his own daughter.

"Hmm," Ares mused. "That means I can smash him to a pulp as often as I want, and he'll just keep coming back for more. I like this idea.”

“The guy on the bike would've made pro wrestlers run for Mama. He was dressed in a red muscle shirt and black jeans and a black leather duster, with a hunting knife strapped to his thigh. He wore red wraparound shades, and he had the cruelest, most brutal face I'd ever seen - handsome, i guess, but wicked - with an oily black crew cut and cheeks that were scarred from many, many fights."

Ares handed her a few gold drachmas.
She looked nervously at the coins. "But, these aren't..."
Ares pulled out his huge knife and started cleaning his fingernails. "Problem, sweetheart?"

“Ares power was causing my anger. He'd love it if I attacked. I didn't want to give him the satisfaction."

“I looked at Ares' weapon, and it seemed to be flickering, sometimes it looked like a shotgun, sometimes a two-handed sword. I didn't know what the humans were seeing in my hands ,but I was pretty sure it wouldn't make them like me.”

“You have made an enemy, godling," he told me. "You have sealed your fate. Every time you raise your blade in battle, every time you hope for success, you will feel my curse.

I really love your choice! I am a huge fan of The Protector Series by M.R. Merrick so of course I would choose a character from his books. I think Vincent the snarky, rude, hot headed and often violent vamp would be great in the spotlight. He is that character that I just love to hate.

  3. Thank you :) He is a great character in this series. I love anything Rick Riordan writes...he has a way of making you enjoy every one of the characters - good, evil, and in between,

  8. My son and I both love this series. He has read them all, and the follow up to it that Rick Riordan came out with. They are both great :)

I love comments and read every one of them! Since they are an award in themselves, this is an award-free blog. Thank you though for the consideration!
